Door installation is less complicated but similar to window installation. The same window wrap can be used around the two sides and on top of the door. Also, the window wrap can be used in the same way as the window pan, crossing the bottom of the door opening and wrapping up each side 8 inches. The same aluminum flashing should be used on top of the door, and the house wrap taped back over the window wrap before the exterior siding / cladding is installed.

The main difference is in the bottom of the door. Unlike the window in which I mentioned never using silicone behind the bottom “fin” so water had an avenue for draining, the door threshold needs silicone to keep moisture and critters out. We use the highest quality door and window caulk on the market as this is usually done once for up to 50 years if the door isn’t changed.

We then apply an insane amount of this silicone to the area the threshold will land once it’s in place. The weight of the door will squish the silicone around and seal moisture out.
