Siding, stucco, brick, and others

So, what is the best option for the exterior of your home for avoiding moisture? Almost any exterior cladding can be installed properly for mold resistance. I don’t know that I would say there is one that is ultimately better than another.

The least expensive is siding, such as LP Smart Trim or Concrete Fiber Board (the most recognizable name is James Hardie Siding).

Stucco is also a less-expensive option, and I like Delta-Dry for stucco and stone. This product provides an air gap over the top of the WRB so moisture and dew point issues are mitigated, but if they do turn to condensation, they are on the outside of the water-resistant barrier and have air to dry it and move out of the wall.

Brick and stone are fantastic exterior surface products and are more expensive. But when installed properly, they will last longer than any other product and will provide a fantastic looking home with protection against condensation and mold.
